A personal interview question. Answer as you would in the room, in writing.
Describe a time you got someone to do something when you had no power to require it. Give the context, your actions, the result, and the reflection.

This is the single most common consulting and product interview question because the work is mostly influence without authority. Strong answers show that the candidate worked out what the other person wanted before making the case, and framed the request in those terms rather than their own. Evidence, a pilot, a borrowed credibility, an appeal to a shared constraint — the mechanism should be visible. Weak answers describe persistence rather than persuasion. The result needs an observable consequence, not just agreement in a meeting.
